Friday Farm Foto: Got her Broody pants on.

Never mind that it is the end of November and way too cold to hatch chicks. Never mind the fact that she's only laying an egg about once a week now. When Sadie gets her broody pants on, you can forget it. Her mind is made up to sit, no matter if there is nothing in the nest box but straw. And woe unto the fool who tries to convince her otherwise by reaching under her.
Anybody got a band aid?
Happy Weekend, everyone!!

Weekend Craftiness: A "Cozy" Project

It was a wonderful weekend here on the Farm....  Once the cooking, eating, and cleaning up was over with on Thursday,  Hubby and I had the rest of the weekend to do exactly what we wanted to do... hibernate. Not that we weren't busy around here; there were still chores to do,  like cleaning out the sheep barn and tidying up around the house.

I also made a batch of homemade hot tamales on Friday.  I've had several people ask me how I make them,  so I'm going to do a post on that soon to share my recipe.

After all the chores were done, I spent the rest of my time in my sewing room. I've had some really cute projects I've been wanting to work on for a while now  and since I planned on giving some of them as gifts for Christmas this year,  I figured I'd better get busy.

I've been wanting to make up some of these for my coffee-loving friends~ a coffee cup cozy.

I've seen hundreds of patterns for these online, but the one I decided to try can be found here.

Moving into Hibernation Mode

Brrr~ yep, it's been a crunchy walk to the barn the past few mornings...

Here we are, more than halfway through November!  Time is flying by these days.... Hubby is off from work this week so we are planning on getting some things done around here...  The barns need to be cleaned out and hopefully we will be getting the  Christmas decorations up this weekend.

We will be getting together with family on Thursday,  but the rest of the weekend we will stay snug and cozy at home;  Hubby in his woodworking shop and me in my sewing room.  No Black Friday shopping for this gal... I try very hard to stay out of the crowds  instead of putting myself in the middle of it all.

I'm very thankful for so many things~ good friends being one of them.  This includes my precious online friends...  Happy Thanksgiving to you all!  Be back next week....

An apple a day...

I know apples are good for you, but my wrist is killing me.  :)

Hubby and I took an unexpected day trip last week and wound up going to one of our favorite places~ the Smoky Mountains. Along the way we stopped by another favorite place- Carvers Apple Orchard in Cosby, TN. We came home with a bounty of fried pies, pumpkin butter, and a half a bushel of Granny Smith apples. (A cute apple basket came with the deal! *squeal*) The Granny Smiths will be dried and put into the freezer to use later, so I spent the day peeling, slicing, cutting, and drying, and constantly cleaning up the mess from these juicy apples. I'm just about finished.....

Here are some apple slices waiting to go into the dehydrator...  they're soaking in a bath of Fruit Fresh to keep them from turning brown.

The Quality Control Inspector is taking a break while I clean up yet another mess. (Actually, she took one very long break in which she was snoring...  I think she was supposed to be on the job in this pict…
